Find the Best Washers for Your Home

A washer is one of the hardest-working appliances in your home. It handles everything from everyday clothes and towels to bulky bedding and muddy sports gear, often several times a week. The best washers clean thoroughly, treat fabrics gently, and fit your laundry space and routine. With so many styles, sizes, and features available, it helps to know what to look for before you buy.

Our washers are organized into top load washers, front load washers, compact washers, full size washers, and portable washers. Top load washers come in agitator and impeller styles, and some models include a removable agitator so you can switch between the two. Front load washers use a tumbling action that is gentle on fabrics and typically uses less water, and many can be stacked with a matching dryer. Compact and portable washers are made for apartments, condos, and smaller laundry closets.

When you shop washers, start with capacity. A washer around 4.5 cubic feet or larger handles bigger families and bulky items like comforters, while smaller households may be happy with a mid-size model. Measure your laundry area, including door clearances and the path into the room. Then compare features such as steam cycles, sanitize options, automatic detergent dispensing, Wi-Fi connectivity, quick wash cycles, and odor-fighting vent systems on front load models. Think about whether you want a matching dryer as well.

    Washers FAQ

A: Top load washers are easy to load without bending and often have shorter cycle times. Front load washers are gentle on fabrics, usually use less water, and can be stacked with a dryer to save space. The right choice depends on your space, budget, and laundry habits.
A: An agitator washer has a center post that moves clothes through the water and is great for heavily soiled loads. An impeller washer uses a low-profile disc at the bottom of the tub, which leaves more room for bulky items and is typically gentler on fabrics.
A: For a household of one or two, a washer around 3.5 to 4.0 cubic feet is usually enough. Larger families, or anyone washing bulky bedding, may want 4.5 cubic feet or more. Compact washers are designed for small spaces and smaller loads.
A: Leave the door and detergent drawer open after each wash so the drum can dry, wipe the door gasket regularly, and run a monthly cleaning cycle with a washer cleaner. Use HE detergent in the recommended amount.
A: Many washers last around 10 to 14 years with regular care. Avoid overloading, use the right detergent, clean the washer periodically, and check hoses for wear to help it last longer.
